Obituary of Henry Mark Ring

Retired U.S. Navy Captain Henry M. Ring, 73, of Frederick, formerly of Laytonsville, died on October 2 at Kline Hospice House, Mount Airy. He was the husband of Carol Ann (Barnum) Ring. Born in Menomonie, Wisconsin on November 6, 1939, he was the son of the late Mathias J. Ring and Elizabeth R. (Leroy) Ring. Upon graduating from St. Cloud University, St. Cloud, MN, he entered the Navy's flight training program in 1961 and was designated an Anti-Submarine Warfare Tactical Coordinator. Lt. Ring received an MS degree in nuclear physics at the US Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA and served as executive officer of the Naval facility on San Salvador Island, in the Bahamas. Cmdr. Ring was designated for Aeronautical Engineering Duty and was Program Manager of several major joint services programs, including GPS. Capt. Ring was also chosen to attend the Advance Management Program at Harvard School of Business in 1987. After retiring from the Navy in 1989, he was employed by Galaxy Scientific Corp. and was VP of the Washington branch of that company until his retirement in 2004. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Carol Ann (Barnum) Ring, a daughter, Elizabeth Long and her husband William T. of Cumming, GA; a son, Mark H. Ring and his wife Deborah of New Market and four grandchildren, W. Patrick Long, Rebecca Long, Daniel C. Ring and Samantha Ring. The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 5 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 East Second Street, Frederick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered promptly following visitation at 11:00 AM, Father Keith Boisvert officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Frederick. Weather permitting, a walking procession to the cemetery is planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church Building Fund, 8428 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, MD 21702.
