Obituary of Lloyd Alonzo Blackmer, Jr.

Lloyd A. Blackmer Jr., 81, of Union City, Pa., passed away surrounded by his family, at UPMC Pittsburgh, Pa., on Sunday, January 19, 2014.

Lloyd was born September 29, 1932 in Olean, New York, the son of the late Lloyd A. and Ethel E. (Roden) Blackmer Sr. He was a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged. He worked for Snap Tite Co., Industrial Sales and Manufacturing of Erie, Pa. and retired from R M Kerner Co, Erie, Pa., in 1998, as a tool and die maker. He was an artist and draftsman and loved to tinker , repair and invent things in his machine shop, and build models. He was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Union City, Pa. and later joined the First Assembly of God Church in Union City, Pa. He was a proud member of the NRA, and also was honored for his work on the Apollo Project for NASA, while employed at Snap Tite Co., in Union City, Pa.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, a son Matthew in 1987, a sister, Alein Ekas and brother, Ralph Blackmer.

Survivors include his sons Brandon Blackmer and Daniel Blackmer, both of Union City, Pa., grandchildren Devin, Sarah, Rebekah, and Zackery, sisters Myrtle "Tina" Blackmer Boyd of Fort Myers, Fla., Margaret Blackmer Decker of Union City, Pa. and Helen Blackmer Mead of Cresview, Fla., and the mother of his children, Myrilee Collum of Erie, Pa.

Friends will be received at the Robert M. Glenn Funeral Home, Inc., 62 South Main Street, Union City, Pa., on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 7-9 p.m., and may attend funeral services there on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Tim Brunk will officiate with interment in Valley Cemetery. Full military honors will follow the funeral home services.
