- Born in 1837.
- Parents were BENJAMIN HEYWOOD and SARAH CUTLER.
- Married MARTHA ANN BUFFUM in 1869. Martha was born in 1838 and died May 3, 1873.
- Occupation - Banker.
- Died on September 7, 1876 in Northfield, Rice County, Minnesota. He was killed by the notorious Younger Brothers in a bank hold-up, which led to the defeat of Jesse James. To this day, Northfield holds a celebration around the anniversary of the hold-up and honors Joseph Lee Heywood as a hero.
- Both Joseph and Martha are buried in Northfied, Rice County, Minnesota.

- LIZZIE MAY HEYWOOD, born April 25, 1871 in Northfield, Rice County, Minnesota. Married EDWIN CARLETON DEAN on June 29, 1897.
