On August 1, 1819, Thomas Heywood and Zimri Heald together purchased, for $5000, "the fractional sections Numbers 1 and 7 of Township 1 in Range 10, lying between the Miami River of the lands directed to be sold at Cincinnati by an act of Congress entitled 'An Act providing for the sale of lands of the United States North West of the Ohio and above the mouth of the Kentucky River'". Current maps at the Miami County engineer's office show this to be the southern tip of current Staunton Township, between Troy and Tipp City. The purchase was made in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio; but the land is in Miami County, Ohio.

On April 28, 1821, Thomas Heywood purchased land from Allen Ramsey and Samuel Ramsey for $140.

On December 6, 1824, Thomas and Sarah Heywood sold to Zimri Heald a parcel of land for $2000. They are given as living in Montgomery County, Ohio.

On October 9, 1834, Thomas and Sarah Heywood

  • sold to their son Alexander 50 acres in Township 1, Range 10 for $1000.
  • sold to their son Wesley 75 acres in Township 1, Range 10 for $2000.
  • bought from Zimri Heald 400 acres for $4000.
  • sold to their son Cyrus a parcel of land for $2000.
  • sold to Nathaniel Heywood 134 acres in Section 1, Township 1, Range 10 for $2000.

Apparently, Thomas knew that the end was near. The only son who didn't receive land was Thomas, Jr., who had gone to Illinois in 1827 to become a physician.
