MILTON ALLIS was born October 18, 1802, and died January 1, 1879. He was twice married, (first) on February 22, 1837, to Mary Smith, who was born on July 22, 1816, and died August 31, 1871, and (second) in March, 1875, to Mrs. Esther Stone.

Milton Allis moved from Conway, Mass., to New York State when a young man. His younger days were spent on the Erie Canal, and after learning how to manage a boat he ran a packet for several years. Afterwards he worked at farming in Orleans County, New York, for a few years, and in 1852 settled on an eighty-acre farm in Rome, New York, where he spent the rest of his life.
