Capt. CALEB DANA, born Princeton, Dec. 24, 1797; died Worcester, Mar. 5, 1871, just as invitations had been sent for a celebration of their golden wedding. His obituary says that he was universally respected for his probity of character and beloved for his genial disposition, and was fully prepared for death. He married Mar. 21, 1821, LAURINDA HARTWELL, born Mar. 17, 1801, died Worcester, Aug. 21, 1882, daughter of Isaac and Eunice (Mirick) Hartwell of Princeton.

He was constable, 1833, assessor, 1840, trustee of the English and Classical School, and active in the Congregational Church. He was commissioned ensign in the State Militia, 1821; lieutenant, 1823; and captain, 1825; during the Civil War joined the State Guard Association. He res. on his father's farm. Till 1846 he was surveyor and a civil engineer.

He then rem. to Worcester, where for many years he ws confidential clerk of Hon. Isaac Davis; was selectman five years; assessor clerk of the Boston, Barre & Gardner Railroad, under its original charter; was clerk for twenty years of the First Church and deacon.
